Our Los Angeles Chapter hosted the panel “Video Game Music: Songs and Scores from a Business and Creative POV” at Lawry’s The Prime Rib in Beverly Hills.
Moderated by Todd Brabec, Esq. (Adjunct Professor USC, former ASCAP EVP, and Co-author “Music, Money and Success”), the panel featured Gordy Haab (Award-Winning Video Game composer: “Star Wars Jedi:Survivor” and “Star Wars Battlefront II”), Alan Meyerson (Award-Winning Producer & Engineer: “Star Wars Jedi:Survivor”), Alex Hackford (Music Affairs Director, PlayStation Studios), and Jake Versluis (Position Music Partner-A&R and Gaming). The discussion explored the important and integral part that music plays in the gaming world, pitching songs, the basics of sync licenses, royalty formulas, the creative selection of music in a game, deal structures, the role of music supervisors and music affairs directors, the music team, and the composer/conductor/orchestrator experience.
